I'm so blessed to live in this province. Even when the sky is a bit scowly in January.

Skywatch Friday: Wild Orchid at Cape St. Mary's
I'm still escaping from the drearies of an uncooperative winter, so this is my offering for this week's Skywatch Friday. Lighthouses and flowers...two of my favourite things in one place. This is Cape St. Mary's, between Digby and Yarmouth in southwestern Nova Scotia. I believe this is Platanthera psychodes, one of the purple fringed orchids. Or it could be P. grandiflora; the difference has to do with the size of the flowers, but I didn't have a measuring tape on me that day.It was one of those perfect summer days when there was no fog to be seen and the sun was lovely and everything was just right in the world, up on that hill overlooking the water.

Lovely!
ReplyDeleteHappy skywatching! You are blessed with wonderful views and interesting flowers.

You are indeed blessed - living in Nova Scotia (place of my dreams), living by the sea (another dream), with lots of great cats (ditto) and surrounded by the color BLUE, flowers, love, a horse and a donkey! It's all great, babe!
ReplyDeleteWild orchids, blue sky and the sea. Perfect. And all from the comfort of my desk.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful sky. And I always think lighthouses are romantic. The sky, the sea, solitude - to share with a beloved.
ReplyDeleteJodi you are lucky and we are too ... for all your postings are so inspiring. I love lighthouses but must drive three hours to see one by the sea. Lovely photograph! You captured beautifully your perfect summer day. Carol
ReplyDeleteI've always wanted to visit the Maritimes. I think it started when I read 'Anne of Green Gables' as a child lol.
ReplyDeleteSuch a lovely pic of the lighthouse against the sky :D
Beautiful picture, I can smell the salty sea air from here. :)
ReplyDeleteThis sure doesn't make one scowl. Beautiful summer day. One in which I am looking forward to seeing again.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful picture. I love the lighthouse in contrast with the sky.
ReplyDeleteI agree! You are blessed. It seems you live in a very lovely place. Now this might be a dumb question... are all Canadian lighthouses square-shaped as opposed to round? I photograph lighthouses when I'm on vacation. (Not like we need them in the desert!) And, I've never seen a square-shaped building before.
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty scene. It looks like it was a perfect day! Hoping you get a nice sunny day soon :)
ReplyDeleteLovely Jodi! Lighthouses and wildflowers ... 2 of my favorites also.
ReplyDeleteJodi girl .. every time I see a picture of yours that reminds me that I have salt water in my soul .. it aches a little. This is a beautiful picture and I know what you mean about a perfect Nova Scotia summer day .. can you say "soul quenching" ? wink wink : )
ReplyDeleteI miss seeing lighthouses, especially the square ones. Thanks for showing us this one. Hank
ReplyDeleteYou really do live in such a unique area - when my mum and dad were over there last year they brought back some wonderful landscape pictures - my mum's an artist so she had a great time painting those.
ReplyDeleteOh so beautiful purple orchids! What an endearing backyard. You can really always be an inspired artist there!
