Skywatch Friday: Cheatin' with Summer Skies, Grateful for Gardening Friends...

A brief post for today, because I'm having an ill spell and am actually writing this in the middle of the night during the insomnia session that goes along. Since March came upon our shores, we haven't seen the sun, nor the moon for that matter. A full moon came and went but other than a lighter shade of pale in the clouds one night, we wouldn't have known. Such weather is tiresome, typical, and shared by others across the northern latitudes, so I thought a summer sunset might make us all feel better for this Skywatch Friday.

It's really hard for me to do my work-writing when I'm dealing with one of these illness sessions, so I do things that need doing but have been put off. Like tidying my paperwork and finding the top of my desk and tables in my office. One thing led to another, as so often happens, and I had some things to put in a special memory box of letters, cards, and other treasures. I spied my bundle of delightful treasures from last year's Gardening by Letter project, and had to look at them again, as I hadn't had them out for a while. I always seem to bring them out when I'm having a rough patch, as they arrived here last year while I was in the midst of some challenges, and they lifted my heart immeasurably then. They still do that now.

As I wrote last year, I've never met any of my gardening blogger friends face to face, and while I hope to get to Buffalo this year, we'll see how my other obligations go. However, when I talk of my gardening friends, I am often referring to friends such as these; people I've yet to meet, or haven't even talked to on the telephone, yet who I consider friends thanks to the joys of the Internet. You all give so much, and you have no idea how much you're a joy and encouragement across the miles. You're like a spring day in my heart. A real spring day, not these tiresome grey interminably cold with sideways-snow days.

And dearest Anna, thank you again for having hosted the Gardening By Letter project. Like this project, you're a priceless, joyful gift across the miles.

That's it for today, friends. Y'all come on back tomorrow, please, because it'll be time for the next Saturday Spotlight.

  1. Dear Jodi, I am so very, very sorry that you are not feeling at all yourself. How utterly miserable for you and how awful the night is when one is unable to sleep. I do so hope that you will soon start to feel a little better. In the meantime, keep in the warm, rest, and try not to worry about work.

  4. To heck with Buffalo...let's aim for Windsor! Hee! Seriously, I really would love a tour of your beautiful gardens by the sea when Scots Bay beckons again this summer. I hope we can work something out, or meet in the middle. :) Until then, chin up and I hope you're soon feeling much better. If it's any consolation, *they say* we're to see sun all weekend. :) Your sky photo is beautiful.

  5. Hope you feel better soon Jodi. I hate those awful gray skies like we had in January and February. A palette of grays is difficult to inspire one. Hope to meet you in Buffalo this year.~~Dee

  6. Oh my, so sorry things are not quite right. I do believe there's quite a lot of that going around. I'm glad you found something to lift your spirits, though. I hope they stay lifted all the way through to sunshine.

  19. Sorry to hear you have been unwell. Having lived for many years in N.B. this time of year was always hard to wait for spring but you did manage to capture a pretty moment there on your horizon.

  20. I hope you are feeling better as you read this comment Jodi. I hope you got a good nap today. The photo is lovely. I too am ready for some good spring days not the days covered with a veil of grey. Happy SWF.

  21. Jodi, I hope you're feeling better soon. I'm still hoping to write a review of Two Gardeners, the collection of letters between Katherine White and Elizabeth Lawrence. This was a virtual friendship of an earlier era, carried out in letters rather than on line -- but these two women exchanged plants, seeds, information and ideas and supported each other through illnesses and personal trials for years, only meeting in person once. -Jean

  22. I am sorry you are not feeling well. Winter weather this late in the year doesn't help. I hope you can catch up on your sleep. Sleep and sunshine would probably work wonders!

  24. I hope you are feeling better! The gardening by letter project was so fun to be part of. I would've never thought I would meet so many great people through blogging.
Hopefully you'll start seeing more of the sun soon. I can imagine that this weather would get old quickly, especially when you know Spring is just around the corner.

  25. I hope the insomnia passes like a dream, Jodi, leaving you able to work again. But I do understand the crankiness a bad bout of weather can engender (and I think you've had much worse than we lately), and I think it's wonderful you can take comfort in the beautiful correspondence between friends. :) (I was just remarking on how we bloggers may influence one another across the miles, and it's an amazing thing!)

  26. I was looking right at my email when this came across--just now--wish there had not been a delay--by one day. I'm not on twitter now as I could not keep up--just FB and I smile every time I see your post. You bring a lot of joy to my life as well. We've always been that way as some are in the blogging world--buds at the get go.

I needed you cause well who wouldn't and you needed me cause you go off the deep end and I laugh and pull you heave ho back to home plate.

You know if I was just down the pasture a bit and in hollering distance--I'd come do something caloric. That is my answer to the blues and so you'll have to come here where it's warm to get some.

I am not coming any further North than the state border. Well--except to visit NS one day. It's on my list--tell Nancy I'm coming--we got to party hardy.

I'm sure you'd at least smile at my accent if you could understand it. Well-now you've got me talking and you know how that goes---So I was a tour guide once up in New York.

New Yorkers are perplexed at how us Southerners can just be--in your business. So me being a tour guide in New York meant a real mix of cultures. Fortunately, most of the tourist were from out West or really out West.

I had fun with it. And you'd have fun listening. I dare you to stay down. I double dare you to stay down while down here. Even I am laughing at that--how silly--down and down.

Just pack your bags and come on---get Nancy to come too. Ya'll do a road trip down a real long road and pull up in my driveway--honk--and come on in.

We will change the sheets when you get here.

Hugs and love dear friend--I'm still waiting on a few packages to arrive to do my final GBL post. Yes--some of our gang is just undisciplined. I'd jerk a knot in their tail but I can't reach it.

But I am enjoying the beautiful beautiful beautiful blue---card--thingy-ma-jigger art on front that you sent. It was both me and you.

Hugs again, Annabanana well now you know...

  27. Get well soon Jodi. Will someone look after the horses when you're ill or do you have to drag yourself out regardless? If so, as an ex-horse owner, I sympathise.

  29. Jodi girl (I am late reading posts yet again) .. I'm so sorry you are having another rough patch .. it just never seems to end or even give us a good long happy break from this stuff.
But .. Spring is coming ever so slowly but surely .. there is no going back so that is a positive thought to hang on to ?
Love the pictures .. I keep waiting for one of my fantastic RED sunrises but our sky is way too clear believe it or not !
Best wishes and hopes that you feel a lot better very soon .. take good care of yourself girl !
