The Orchid Show: "All right, Mr. DeMille, I'm ready for my close-up."
Okay, I admit, I couldn't resist it. The Oscars are tonight, and yesterday I went to an orchid show at Acadia University, where some of the most beautiful flowers in the world were gussied up in their best and most colourful finery. Without a hairdresser, fashion designer, or plastic surgeon in sight.
More on these gorgeous plants tomorrow, after I see how my favourite movie--about ten foot tall blue cats and plants that glow in the dark--made out tonight.
Do you suppose I succumbed to the urge to bring any orchids home with me? Kylee knows the answer to this question, I'm sure.

A perfect post for Oscar night. Beautiful orchids in the photos and, I feel sure, at least one found its way home with you :-)
ReplyDeleteAh yes, the divas of the plant world, much like felines, really :)
ReplyDeleteDear Jodi, The collages are lovely and your comments made me smile. Orchids are probably one house plant [and I am useless with anything indoors] I should choose to have in every room. I am inspired to try again!
ReplyDeleteat a red carpet event like this, I wonder if there aren't some sort of equivalents to make up artists and plastic surgeons...
ReplyDeleteOf course you have a new orchid..or two. Ha. My hubby was disappointed in the Avatar not getting more recognition due to the fact that it was such an innovative movie, had a positive message and good entertainment too. I want to watch it in 3-D.
ReplyDeleteJodi girl there was a gorgeous little display I took pictures of from our Kingston garden show .. they are amazing plants but I have a very brown thumb when it comes to them .. so I will admire them from afar ? LOL
ReplyDeleteHow are you feeling ? .. I hope better ?
Joy
What gorgeous faces and gowns they are all wearing... such amazing flowers! Beautiful portraits Jodi! ;>)
ReplyDeleteOh Jamie will love this post, he’s looooooves his orchids. :-) Hope you are well. -- Randy
ReplyDeleteOh Jodi, if none came home with you ~ you are made of stronger stuff than me! There are some absolutely gorgeous ones in your photos. I'm just getting into orchids and would love a few of these.
ReplyDeleteLove your snowdrop header too. Spring is on the way, isn't it?
It's possible you went home empty handed but I wouldn't bet on it.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness...they are just stunning! I can't wait to see you post more.
ReplyDeleteOrchids are simply too hard to resist! I might have gone a little nuts when faced with this temptation. :)
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful collages. I have never seen so pretty orchid flowers at one place.
ReplyDeleteI love orchid shows! Exotic blooms and the best of the best. Nice!
ReplyDeleteMe oh my, these are stunning, Jodi. Indeed, we both have orchids on the brain :) I covet your paph ~ mine checked out :(
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, jodi! We toyed with the idea of going to Acadia for the show, but I'm just getting over a 2nd bout of bronchitis and just didn't have it in me to go. Those blooms are spectacular!
ReplyDeleteBeauties to drool over indeed! I wish I'd been there to see the lovely ladies.
ReplyDeleteLike you, we've had that wonderful warm up and sunshine weather these past few days, and guess what I saw this morning? Uhuh....redwings! And I immediately thought of you, of course :)
But wait, there's more....this afternoon I found snowdrops blooming in the garden!!! Spring is springing, Jodi! There's a bright light at the end of the tunnel! We're going to make it! I do hope you're feeling better by now and that the warmer weather is lifting your spirits. Keep the faith. xo
What a beautiful new header for the blog, Jodi!
ReplyDeleteThey are beautiful exotic flowers and would dominate the red carpet if they could walk :-)
ReplyDeleteWow what beautiful Orchids.
ReplyDeleteI have just found you through Lucy with here Pictures Just Pictures blog.
Pretty, pretty! The do like their dressed for the red carpet. I wonder is there a worst and best dressed in the orchid world?
ReplyDeleteJodi, They're gorgeous. And they didn't have to starve themselves to get this way.
ReplyDeleteI just love orchids lovely collages too Jodi. What did you bring home?
ReplyDeleteIt must have been quite a show...I am trying to imagine all the orchids. Did you discover any with fragrance?
ReplyDeleteGail
Love your orchid "closeups". I'm sure orchids are addictive, my father had a huge collection and still looked for more. But he certainly enjoyed them. I've just gotten another as a gift and wonder if I'll get the bug. They are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThose orchids are gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen Avatar yet - but want to, but suddenly it's between Avator and The Single Man (with Colin Firth - god, it looks like a visually gorgeous film). But I think the IMAX theater in town is still playing Avatar - so I've gotta see it on the big screen in 3-D...
ReplyDeleteI've seen Avatar last Dec and i like the message, it amused me no end because Americans are the destroyers of the environment!
ReplyDeleteThese orchids are all hybrids, i suppose, so very well selected colors and display through the years of breeding work. I am familiar with orchids, so i appreciate more your photos and how you made the collage. hehe.
There are about 25,000 to 30,000 known species of orchids around the world.
ReplyDeleteAnd you have captured very beautiful images of orchids.
Thank you for sharing!!
They all deserve a Oscar...LOL. What fun that must have been.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots.
