Bloomin' weather, bloomin' weeds, bloomin' ickies and blooming writer

Today is Sunday, 5 July. Belated but heartfelt Happy Canada Day to my compatriots; hope everyone had an awesome Canada Day with lots of "true patriot love..." and lots of red and white!

and belated but equally heartfelt Happy Fourth of July to my American neighbours. (My Red, White and Blue tribute follows...)

Assorted bouquets, hugs and apologies to regular readers and to my fellow bloggers who I usually visit faithfully. I've been amongst the blogging/gardening missing again.

I'll blame it on the weather, shall I? We've had something like seventeen days in a row of wet, dreary weather, with fog, rain, drizzle, etc etc making an appearance for at least part of every day, according to my longsuffering spouse, who notices these things. But frankly, I haven't been noticing a whole lot of anything, since I've been fighting illness again.

Regardless of what's going on with health and weather and other matters of the universe, of course the gardens sail on without me, and are approaching jungle-like qualities again. The sun has been out intermittently today, and the humidity has been broken, though I haven't been outside the house yet to test this for myself. Watching from my bedroom window, I've seen the sun gleefully illuminate the overgrown grass, the far too exuberant growth of plants both welcome and otherwise (goutweed, I'm looking at YOU...). I keep reminding myself that things happen for a reason, and that invariably they also work themselves out. So I'm gonna focus on the flowers and the foliage, and not so much the weeds, other than to laugh at them.

That's my story and I'm stickin' to it. I'll catch up with everyone when I can, and hopefully feel up to finishing some posts that have been partly done for several weeks but never been completed and posted because I've felt too icky to get A Round Tuit. Fortunately, posts don't get couchgrass or goutweed in them when neglected...

  1. Nothing wrong with me and there are still tons of weeds here in Greenbow. So sorry to hear that you are feeling icky again. Or is that still?? Hang in there the sun will shine again literally and figuratively.

  2. Hope some sun makes you feel better. I missed ya but that's my own fault for not visiting myself. But it's stone season so I have to 'force' myself to just post let alone visit and reply to comments.

    Oh, say, can you see,
O Canada is just north of me

  3. Well darn, Jodi, you seem to be having a time of it. I hope you get to feeling better very soon. Even with the weather or maybe because of it, your blooms look gorgeous.

Belated Canada Day to you. :)

  5. I hope you feel better soon, Jodi. We've had nothing but hot and dry weather here. Tell you what...I'll send you some if you send me some cool, wet rainclouds.

  6. Hi Jodi, I hope you get better soon. At least, there are no signs of seventeen days of weather-dreariness in your fabulous blooms!:) Ours is a no-choice between hot-and-humid and mud-and-rain!

  7. I am so sorry, Jodi, that you are under the weather again (no pun intended!). It is so hard to think positive when not well. I hope you are spending the time being kind to yourself and don't try to do too much too soon. Sending lots of best wishes to you. Sylvia (England)

  8. I hear you concerning the weather and it certainly doesn't create energy especially if you are a bit low already. Here's hoping the sun shines on you and your garden soon.

  9. Oh Jodi, I'm so sorry you haven't been feeling well! I DID miss your posts and should have checked on you, but assumed (ACK!) you were just busy as I have been.

We could use some of your wet weather! We've been without rain for some time and none is predicted for this week either. Since our gardens are in a garden tour in August (yeah...August), we have to water or half the garden will be a nice shade of brown (to match the grass).

Please take care of yourself and don't worry about posting or visiting or any of that. YOU are what matters!

    *hugs and love*

  10. I'm sorry you've been feeling poorly. You've got a good attitude toward the garden. I hope you're feeling much better soon.

  11. Jodi -- Happy Belated Canada Day. Hope you are feeling better soon, and I hope some of our heat starts to lift up your way and take away the dreary weather with which you've been stuck. It's so annoying when that icky weather makes the weeds grow, isn't it? Just doesn't seem fair. Get well soon.

  12. Jodi, I hope you're starting to feel better. It truly has been a miserable, depressing stretch of weather, but hold on to your Sou'wester! There's sun in the forecast today! (Wed) Do take care -- the garden will take care of itself and, like housework, it isn't going anywhere. :-) Wish I were close enough to give you an afternoon of weeding. Feel better.

  13. Happy belated Canada Day to you, Jodi, and thank you for the red, white, and blue tribute. The weeds are thriving here, too, so don't feel too bad--you can blame it on all the rain we've had:) So sorry to hear you are ill again; I do hope you are feeling better soon and that the sun soon shines on you.
