The Attack of the Dreaded Farch, redux
It's so nice to realize that we're not alone in our winter malaise, isn't it? Thanks to all of you who have offered kind wishes on my crappy knee, and to those who are enduring the plague of this winter, too. It would seem, from reading blogs the past day or so, that we here in NS are trailing at least a day behind our fellow northern gardening bloggers, as we had a nice (but cold) day yesterday and a nice (and very mild day today)...and are currently waiting to be clobbered by an ice storm, which some of you have had.
We don't know whether to laugh or cry, do we? Despite my harrumphing, my inclination is to find humour in among the rantings. I was reduced to giggles yesterday when I saw this sign in Kentville, so I pulled over, grabbed my camera, and went back to capture it. I think it sums up winterweariness really, really well, don't you?
Batten down the hatches, friends...despite our best wishes, we ain't quite out of the weatherwoods yet. But at least we can draw on delightful plants such as this to cheer our souls. And the clocks go ahead in a few days too. We'll get there from here.

Now that sign is really funny! When I read your posts I can close my eyes and be walking around in Nova Scotia. The best part about visiting with my family was the long, long walks I took by myself and with various family members.
ReplyDeleteSo many times I wanted to buy a small house as a vacation home but getting from here to there isn't so easy and more expensive too.
Jodi! That was the best laugh I've had for quite some time! :-)
ReplyDeleteWhen do you Normally expect Spring weather to remain where you are? We are usually safe to plant "tender" things around the first of May... but a lot of things go in the ground before that if the weather has been good! And they are protected against late frosts. (Last Spring we had a late FREEZE!)
That's great. Says it ALL!
ReplyDeleteI love that last picture..the color is wonderfully yummy.
At least some one still has their sense of humor(she says as the temp is now 40 degrees colder than 48 hrs. ago and watching the snow blow!)I did get a huge smile when I read the sign! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThe dreaded Farch has struck again! Yesterday AM hit 54 ... now it's blustery and snowing BIG TIME (6-10 inches expected). Hope it's not coming your way, Jodi (but I wouldn't count on it) :( "Batten down the hatches!"
ReplyDeleteAfter the tease of a couple of beautiful days we had the wintery mix going last evening and the ground is white again this morning. UGH
ReplyDeleteThat salmon color is just wonderful. I am so looking forward to more color.
Jodi, that is a laugh out loud sign, surely! We are so up and down here in TN it does make one queasy! Hope your knee and other pains are lessened by your humorous outlook. To add to the stomach butterflies, we are changing to daylight savings time this weekend! As I wait the dawn, it will now take an extra hour, aacck! Good for those who like the evening to be out though.

What a hoot! I love it when people take street signs etc into their own hands to make us stop and smile :)
ReplyDeleteWoke up to 1" of ice coating everything. Schools are closed. My 9-year old, with the privilege of TV revoked for the week, will be waking up soon. Wish me luck.
ReplyDeleteWill Farchuary never end?
That sign is hilarious, and I can really use the laugh.
ReplyDeleteThe bougainvillea is lovely - what a gorgeous color.
Jodi: That is a good one! I saw my first signs of snowdrops this morning and it is currently 52F which is a heat wave! Yeah!
ReplyDeleteJodi: It's nice to have other folks who feel the same way- sometimes understanding eases the aggravation. Besides that it's a funny sign!
ReplyDeleteThe bouganvillea reminds me of all the lush foliage I saw this weekend on our beach trip...and what a scrumptious color.

That sign is so funny - thanks for making me laugh! /Katarina at Roses and stuff
ReplyDeleteI love it! Hilarious :)
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you got that gloriously mild day. It's about 38ºF (3ºC) here today and our school was on a 2 hour delay because of the ice this morning. It's not bad now though.
DLT will make us feel more like spring, don't you think? And more warm days will be showing up....we can do it!
I hope your knee is doing much better.
I'm sure the sign was just what you needed to see. Too funny! The sun is shining today and the ice is glistening. It is so pretty.
ReplyDeleteChange "throw up" to "scream" & I could've written that sentiment. But won't this Spring be all the brighter for the difficult Winter we've just endured?
ReplyDeleteAnything that prompts a good giggle is always okay in my book. Our spring is dragging a little here too. It's supposed to be a high of on 48 degrees Saturday.

Funny! As much as my husband and I love traveling and visiting northern climes this is the very reason we keep our keisters in the sunny (mostly) southland! Great sign - thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI think my husband could use that sign (just substitute snow blower ?) .. made me HOOT in any case ! .. I don't think we are ahead of you girl .. I'm seeing a lot of snow and ice in my garden ... makes me want to throw up too ! EEUUUWWWWWWW ! LOL

Hi Jodi,
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a better feeling in your knee! That sign is so funny, I giggle with you.
Have a wonderful day Wurzerl
Yes you will. Get there from here. And the sign is a hoot. We have wonderful wear-your-shorts weather here in East Texas today. But tomorrow is supposed to be entirely different! Never a dull day.
ReplyDeleteBrenda
Just one snowfall too many ! Many Chicagoans feel the same after the 5th snowiest winter on record.
ReplyDeleteAs you know it ain't over yet. Maybe a sign underneath that sign reading : Caution you are entering the throw up zone should be added
BWAHAHAHAHA! I love that sign. And for it to make me laugh with a Blizzard Watch hanging over my head, it's really good. :)
