I'm a writer: want to hire me? About Bloomingwriter.

I've been a freelance writer for well over a decade, and write for a variety of publications. Currently I am a gardening columnist, book reviewer and feature writer (not always about gardening) with a number of magazines and newspapers throughout Atlantic Canada. I also do corporate work for various organizations and agencies, give talks to numerous clubs and other groups, and give the occasional writing workshop. My second book, on garden plants for Atlantic Canada, is scheduled to be released in the spring of 2011 by Nimbus Publishing.

If you're looking for a writer for contract work, articles, web content, and other projects, I am available. My online resume is currently being revised and updated; please email me if you have a specific project in mind. Please understand that I am a professional with many years of experience and available testimonials, and I am not interested in working for sweatshop wages.

I started this blog in January of 2006, as a way to 'give back' to the gardening community in my region, which has been so supportive of my career as a writer, speaker, photographer and editor. As a result of blogging, I've 'met' people from far beyond my corner of the gardening world, and have learned more and more about gardening with every visit I make to another's blog.

Like the sidebar says, I read a LOT of blogs, and they may not all be included in the blogroll, for which I apologize. I try to keep the blogroll updated, and I tend to drop people off if they haven't posted in more than three months. Blogging is timeconsuming, and not for everyone.

There are also a variety of links to nurseries from around the region (mostly Nova Scotia, one or two from elsewhere) as well as to other (non-gardening) blogs and other sites of interest to me. I regularly support local nurseries, but not all of them have websites. And there are a few that I don't promote here, feeling that it's better to say nothing at all than to say something negative.
Personally, I'm not a fan of and I don't recommend bigbox stores, but if they are your only option for garden supplies, I'm sure not going to yell at you. :-)

My Advertising and Promotions policy:

* I do not do 'guest posts' from people with businesses I have never heard of or dealt with. Please don't email me to ask.
* Anything I recommend on bloomingwriter is as a result of having read it, grown it, (in some cases, killed it if it's a plant) or otherwise tried it in some way.
* I am trying a trial run of Google Adsense for a few months; please don't feel offended by this, nor feel obliged to click through links. I'm working on developing an Amazon Associate plan recommending books that I have read/owned and recommend, but it's a work in progress.
* On occasion, I will accept advertising from a reputable business for a reasonable payment. Please email me to discuss rates and options.
* I don't do reciprocal links/posts or join up with all these nebulous 'expert gardening' websites that are springing up like mushrooms in a horse pasture. I do belong to the garden blogging community of Blotanical, and have since the very beginning. I don't get there as often as I used to but do participate there when I have time.
* Unfortunately, I am not able to do giveaways of freebies; I don't receive many freebies myself and I don't wish to buy people's visits. Besides which, the cost of postage through Canada Post is just about highway robbery.
* Due to the annoyingly high concentration of people out there who can't be bothered with honest work and insist on being spammers, I've had to turn on word verification for comments. From time to time Blogger seems to have a meltdown and give people headaches with the word verifications. I apologize for such annoyances--I know I swear loudly when I encounter such problems on other people's blogs.
